Asia is the home of
several of the world's great religious and ethical
traditions such as Hinduism, Taoism, Buddhism, and
Confucianism. It also has an ancient Christian presence
going back to St. Thomas in India and the Nestorians in
China. Christianity is, therefore, a faith that is at home
in Asia. Today there are vibrant communities of Christians
in every country in Asia and the church is a significant
presence even though Christians are in the minority. As the
church seeks to be faithful to the gospel within the Asian
context it faces many challenges including the training of
pastoral and educational leadership, theological
construction in a religiously and culturally pluralistic
world, and finding creative ways to minister within a region
undergoing tremendous economic, political, and social
change. APGS was formed to help the churches of Asia meet
these challenges.
With major fields of study in Biblical Studies, Christian
Education, Missiology, and Theology APGS is committed to the
mission of God in the world, to the church as it seeks to
carry out that mission, to the ecumenical relationships
between various churches, and to the ethical imperative of
the gospel through constructive social action and change. We
invite you to come and join the community of pastors and
scholars at APGS.
