The Faculty of Music, to
fulfill its role as the vanguard in a world that changes
through music and Christian culture in the church, has its
focus on fostering theoretical purpose and practical skills.
To raise up musicians that God will be pleased with, we have
established and are operating the Department of Music and
Church Music simultaneously.
The Department of Music and Church Music major serves to
raise up performers and church music leaders, and was
founded in 1996 based on faith and the mind-set of musical
education. Also in 2005, through the Asia Pacific Graduate
School of Theological Studies, the Master of Church Music
program was established. Its goal is to raise up specialized
church musicians and performers who can devote themselves
knowing correct worship music and Christian truth, and raise
musical standards with a spiritual and artistic basis and
with theoretical and practical skills. The students who have
completed our program, as specialized musicians, are opening
up the future, with suitable nature and education to serve
through their outstanding abilities as church music leaders,
in different music fields and church music.
Our faculty consists of 4 full-time, 6 contract, and a total
of 20 excellent professors who have completed their degrees
in Germany, Austria and Europe¡¯s foremost colleges. They are
models to the students through their performance and
research, both domestically and abroad.
Through an excellent ratio of instruments to the number of
students and opening a practice room 24 hours a day, our
school provides for technique in piano, vocal music,
composition, organ, orchestral music, and CCM. Through
different educational programs such as Master class and
freshmen concert, specialized performances, regular concerts
and weekly recitals, we are providing the students with more
diverse opportunities for education and for performance.
Through adapting educational programs that are needed in the
society, we are increasing our educational field by
establishing subjects that are related.
Many graduates are engaged in major music fields and in
ministry through church music. A number of graduates have
won competitions and through studying abroad, they are
involved as a professional performers.
Hanil graduates are involved as worship music directors,
composers, choirs, comtemporary music performers, music
treatment ministries, a broadcasting station, music
producers, music critics, performance directors, music
recording or music editors, MIDI music teachers, music
designers, etc.
Piano: Pianists are trained in practical studies during
their school years so that they apply their knowledge to the
changing reality after graduation. After completing all the
curriculum provided by the course, students may serve as a
church musician, or by entering Graduate school, students
may prepare to become a professional performer or music
related leader or manager.
Vocal: Our faculty provides 2 different ways of studying in
the music field. Regular music(opera, and aria) and church
music(oratorio, sacred music, and CCM). We have established
classes in Conducting, Choir Vocal Training, Worship Musics,
Opera Workshop, Aria Class, etc. After graduation, students
may become professional performers, opera singers, technical
vocal trainers, church music leaders, worship leaders, etc.
Organ: After mastering basic organ skills, our program
provides studies in worship accompaniment and organ related
theories to prepare to become church organists. Through our
excellent professors and practice rooms, students have
opportunities performing, and in the future, students may
specialize in music or become church organists.
Composition: Our school has the advantage of learning 2
different types of composition : regular composition and
church music composition. Our faculty provides classical
music and comtemporary music to study in the major. Students
may thus have more opportunity to choose freely.
Orchestration: Educating through ensembles, students may
become involved in professional performing. As it is in the
Bible(Psalm chapter 150), our faculty gives priority in
worshiping and praising with orchestras.
CCM(Contemporary Church Music): A praising and worshiping is
a most important part in worship music. To become a worship
music leader, our faculty educates in musical knowledge,
spirituality training, and the needs of theological worship.
